This is the last year for Science Communication 7413 Displays and Exhibits and Science Communication 7414 Interpretation. From 2008, these units will be combined to form one six point unit called Displays and Exhibits.
The unit (7413/7414) promises to be a lot of fun as well as hard work. No exams but fairly comprehensive and practical assignments.
The lectures and tutorial sessions include field trips to the UWA Earth Science Museum, UWA Berndt Museum of Anthropology, Scitech, SymbioticA, and Karakamia Sanctuary. There will also be a talk from David Blair from the Gravity Discovery Centre, Gin Gin. I’m sure we would be going to Gin Gin if it could have been arranged. In addition, colleagues will be presenting their case studies of other displays or exhibits and conducting a guided walk.
And, for our first assignment we get to design, create and staff the Science Communication exhibit that forms part of the UWA EXPO 2007 (Sunday 19 August, 9am – 4pm).
The UWA EXPO is aimed at potential undergraduate students. Although, if you are thinking of postgraduate studies, it appears to be a good way to browse the various options at UWA. I haven’t been to the UWA EXPO before, but it promises to be an opportunity even for existing students to check out other faculties and schools.
Homework: Suggest a ‘Big Idea‘ and some exhibits for the Science Communication Exhibition at UWA EXPO. Glee glee!
