News is currently being circulated of the conviction of David Hicks, receiving a nine month sentence in addition to the five years already spent in custody.
Hicks’ sentence was in exchange for signing away any right to sue the U.S. government for torture and a gag order for 12 months.
Last night, I saw the last film at the Somerville for The UWA Perth International Arts Festival. – The Road to Guantanamo. If the documentary and drama of this film about the “Tipton Trio” is even somewhat factual, there is no doubt in my mind that the treatment of any detainees at Guantanamo is inappropriate and inhumane.
If you missed the film festival, check out screenings near you, or on Google Video. If you Google for The Road to Guatanamo, then you will find Britain’s Channel 4, Wikepedia, Amazon reviews, Amnesty International USA, and of course the official site.
One of the web sites I visited encouraged all U.S. voters to watch the film. In light of David Hicks’ tribunal and sentence, I suggest that all U.S., U.K., and Australian voters watch the film.
